The Heart Behind Wild Protea Travel

I was born and raised in Midrand, near Johannesburg, and after graduating from Stellenbosch University, I emigrated to the United States. Still, South Africa has never left me. My roots — and my heart — remain firmly in the Western Cape and along the Garden Route, where I now have family and lifelong friends.

I return often, both to reconnect with loved ones and to discover new corners of the Cape that continue to surprise me with their hidden gems. These regular visits aren’t just a tradition; they’re essential — my soul cannot go long without returning to what I truly believe is the most beautiful place on earth.

I started Wild Protea Travel to share this deep love and knowledge of the Western Cape with travelers who want more than just the typical tourist experience. I believe South Africa can be explored in meaningful, authentic ways — even on a budget — and that its best stories are found in the community-led adventures, and the small businesses that make each visit unforgettable.
